Every marriage has its fair share of problems. However, a marriage should never be so plagued with problems that one or both partners wonder whether the marriage is worth saving. No matter how difficult marital problems seem, there should always be hope that both partners are invested in the future of the marriage.

Instructions

Be sure you both want to save your marriage. It's going to take both of you to make the marriage work. The first step is to have a long and honest discussion about all of your problems.

Make a plan of action to resolve the problems threatening the marriage. Don't place blame. Instead, acknowledge your own role in the creation of each problem. Discuss each problem in a calm and mature manner. Decide what can be done to eliminate the difficulties threatening the marriage. Last, determine that change is necessary for the marriage to continue.
Decide what areas of your marriage need improvement as well as what aspects of your own personality and behavior could stand being improved. Although changes may be necessary, it is not always easy. Create a step-by-step plan outlining ways in which you can improve yourself and your marriage. This may seem silly at first, but it can be very helpful in saving your relationship.
Learn to laugh at your mistakes. Talk openly about the sour moments in your marriage. Examine the disagreements and the less-than-perfect moments that brought you to the point where you are at now. If you really take the time to scrutinize them, you may find that you are able to laugh about them. Focus your energies on the positive moments of the past and work toward a positive future together.
Be willing to put the needs of your spouse before your own. Practice selflessness. This is one way of showing your spouse how much you care and that you are willing to save your marriage.
Put the romance back into your marriage. Although sex is a very important part of a marriage, there are many ways to express your feelings. For example, try writing personal notes or poems, being spontaneous and doing things out of the ordinary. Include small acts of intimacy, such as holding hands and engaging in conversation. Small gestures can strengthen the bond of marriage.

Seek the help of a professional marriage counselor if you feel you need it. Some couples feel that they are unable to solve their problems alone. There's nothing wrong with seeking help. If you feel you need professional guidance and advice to save your marriage you will benefit from the assistance of a professional marriage counselor.

Tips & Warnings
  •  Keep at it; saving your marriage takes time. It won't happen overnight.
